He knew he was going to make the attempt, but he had to keep a lid on it until after Winter X-Games.  

First of all, in typical freeride style, his plans were always to flip off a natural backcountry kicker rather than a steel ramp.  He didn't want to attempt it before X-Games, which he Bronze medalled at, to risk injury before Aspen, and he knew the snowbike community had several others that were close to making it happen themselves and didnt want to stoke any fires before he could get his own feat on film.....first.
